Ratib al Haddad was taken from the name of the author, namely al Habib Abdullah bin Alwi bin Muhammad al Haddad (1055-1132 H.). Ratib al Haddad was arranged to fulfill the request of a student named Amir from the family of Bani Sa'ad who lived in Shibam, one of the villages in Hadramaut, Yemen. The aim of Amir was to ask Habib Abdullah to compose Ratib, so that a wird and dhikr be held in his village, so that they could defend and save themselves from the heresy that was engulfing Hadramaut at that time.
